i just can't do anything right...

the other morning...

anna (tear-stained face, red eyes and screaming...): "mom, i am just trying to live a happy life and it's not working because of you!"

all because i make her wear clean clothes and non-sweat pants (jeans) to school.

she's only eight.

oh what do you do in the summertime...

when all the world is green?
do you swim in a pool to keep yourself cool?

or go to a dermatologist
and get your spitz nevus removed?

so does she...

anna had a black freckle appear about christmas time. well, it started to grow. and people often tried to wipe off the speck of black pepper on her nose. i decided to have it checked out by the doctor. and her black freckle was deemed a spitz nevus.

and they took it out. it was deeper than the doctor anticipated and thus we have a blue stitch (great for the first day of school).

if you zoom in on the first two photos you can see the lovely spitz nevus on the right side (her left) of her cute nose.

grow old along with me, the best is yet to be?

we were talking about dying (i don't know why) on the way home from church. anna had some questions, one of them being do we keep growing after we die. i didn't quite get it so i asked her what she meant.

"well, mom, if we keep growing after we die then that means that heaven will be filled with a lot of senior citizens and that won't be too fun. i mean, there won't be any kid things."

she does have a point.

going to school

i think this may be tucker's favorite time of day--walkind the kids to school. when we actually get to the school, he is goo-gooed all over and he loves it. the kids love the attention as well.

which definition do you like best?

yesterday, before school:

anna: mom, what does gay mean?

me (completely caught off guard): well (drawn out for about 5 seconds), when i was a little girl it meant happy.

too bad i couldn't just leave it at that. so i proceeded to inform her of the modern day definition. we chatted a bit back and forth, mostly me chatting and her listening. at the end of the discussion:

me: so, what do you think?

anna: i think i like the first definition the best.

yeah, me too.

developing my talents!

thanks to tiff for introducing me to hair today! i love, love, love this site (and right now, she is doing a give-away...go see). i have already done the hair headband on anna. and here is the proof:

my hair-doing talents are really being developed. here is the haircut i gave shawn on saturday:

i know, it really is quite short. but that's what he wanted. and i think it looks pretty good for my first haircut ever!

so, if anyone needs a braid or a short do--just come on by!

do you suppose she has been watching too much "hairspray" lately

yesterday as we were driving by glenwood springs swimming pool, anna pipes up with this question:

"mom, is that pool integrated?"

she really likes to think things out...

she is already savvy to the ways of the world. and she is only seven.

i let her have one of the valentine cds i made for my party. this cd included "bubbly" by colbie caillat. at night, she puts this song on repeat and when i wake at 2:13 am i hear this song still playing. repeat. repeat. repeat. anna has absolutely fallen in love with this song.

she had a conversation with shawn the other night. she thought that i could sell the cds i made at valentines. shawn then explained to her about copyright and plagiarism and the such. he told her that it would just be wrong of me to sell the cds to make music.

anna then told him something to the effect, "but if mommy sold the cds, then colbie calliat could sue mommy. then, we could meet her."

i think it's a plan. anyone want to buy a cd?

nothing gets by her...

so last night we watched the superbowl and the accompanying commercials (not too impressed).

as luck would have it, anna was around for the victoria's secret commercial. the one with the beautiful brunette sitting around in her bra/cami and panties. her hair was being blown around. it said something to the effect of after this game, let the real games begin. and at the end came a black screen with "victoria's secret" written across it.

anna read it out loud. then replied, "well that's not much of a secret, is it."

what to do?

the kids were playing with the kids next door the other day. shawn was listening in. this is what he heard:

david (anna's age): "anna you have to play fair!"
anna: "well, i'm a girl. sometimes, it's not fair."

anna's orginal writings

shawn was at scouts last night. i put the kids to bed. i told anna she could do whatever she wanted in her bed while i mikey settled down. this is some of what she did--very creative for a second grader.

ANNA
Anna is my name.
Nintendo wii is my favorite game.
Never like to turn out the light.
Always like to stay up all night.

MIKEY
Monster trucks and race cars!
Ice cream and candy bars!
Kicking soccer balls
Eating spaghetti and meatballs.
Yelling at my sister. (this is my favorite line--)

DAD
Driving my truck on bumpy roads
Ate all the donuts
Did somebody say donuts?

LIZ
Loveliest one around
In my mind all day
Zipping around all the way.

i am not sure why she used my first name rather than mom when she used dad instead of shawn--mrs. psychologist's wife, any suggestions?

she's a nut

anna has been bored today. she gave me some ideas for a blog. here they are--i don't really know how to develop them.

1. mikey has someone to play with and she doesn't

2. daddy's birthday is on thanksgiving this year

3. she sneeked some gushers

4. mikey is so lucky and she isn't

5. and she has on her lucky shirt (lucky because she wore it today and had a great day despite her horrible morning--according to her)

well, she just heard all the kids outside and she is gone. what a nut!

and the winter has begun...

we got our first snow last night. very exciting...

anna and friend, jordan, made a snowman this afternoon. isn't he cute?

just a little love for the snowman.

the kids had a lot of fun with the snow. i am afraid that winter is here to stay now. lucky us. have you got snow yet?

birthday registries?

anna was invited to a birthday party.

the invitation was normal. who, what, when, where. then at the bottom it informed us that the little girl was registered at "kidtopia", a toy store in eagle.

what? i know of wedding and even baby registry. but birthday? do they have this where you are? i am just out of the loop?

i think if they are going to have birthday registry, then they should have anniversary registry.

it's new to me.

what's a mom to do?

anna was making cards last night for her game of "the price is right" with mikey. i looked down and saw that she had spelled "right" wrong (rite was her spelling). i told her she spelled it wrong and suggested she correct it.

she looked at me and said, "i don't care. mikey can't read anyway."

huh. that wasn't my point. what a smarty.
